Southern Indiana Genealogical Society Monthly Program

“The History of the Underground Railroad with a focus on its presence in and impact on Indiana”

Jeannie Regan-Dinius, Director of Special Initiatives for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, will be the guest speaker at the November 2 program of the Southern Indiana Genealogical Society (SIGS). She will speak about the history of the Underground Railroad with a focus on its presence in and impact on Indiana.

A “meet and mingle” with light refreshments will begin at 6:45 PM with program at 7 PM in the Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, 180 W. About "First Families"

“First Families” is an official Legacy Project of the Indiana Bicentennial Commission. The project identifies Floyd, Clark, and Harrison County pioneers and their direct descendants and preserves those families’ histories. Membership is open to anyone verifying direct descent from a tri-county settler in the area prior to 1841. SIGS invites individuals to join the First Families Project by verifying direct descent descent from an ancestor living in the tri-county area prior to 1841. Approved applicants will receive First Families certificates and be honored guests at the annual History and Heritage Celebration in October of each year. First Families applications are online and can be downloaded at http://www.sigsweb.org/firstfamilies

First Family Celebration 2018

The next "History and Heritage Celebration" will be held in October 2018, at the 4-H Fairground on Green Valley Road. Certified Pioneer Certificates will be issued to applicants. First-time applcants will also receive the FF pin, which was especially designed for this program. The deadline for the 2018 Applications is August 1, 2018.
(Since this is an ongoing program, if you don't have your application ready by the deadline, your certificate will be issued in 2019.) It isn't too early to start working on your applications to be submitted in 2018. All applications must be submitted by August 1, 2018 to be eligible to receive your certificate at the October 2018 event.

Note: The regular program times for our monthly meetings is the first Thursday of each month at 7 PM in the Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany, Indiana. The public is invited to attend these monthly meetings.
