LAND DEED TO CEMETERY ASSOCIATION

 

The following is an Abstract of Title as to the real estate situated in the County of Floyd and State of Indiana, described as follows, to-wit:

 

Being a part of what was known as the “meeting House” lot in Sease’s Addition to Galena, Plat No. 153, being a rectangular tract of land occupied by the Church building now located thereon, and consisting of that portion of such ground so occupied by such Church building and a strip of ground 10 feet wide on the northern and eastern sides of such Church building and a strip of ground 6 feet wide on the southern side of such Church building and a strip of ground 20 feet, more or less, in width on the western side of such building and  extending to the road.

 

From the 15th day of August 1839 to the 25 day of July 1956.

 

 

"Sease Addition to Galena"

The Annexed plat of lots represent an addition to the Town of Germantown, 15th day of August, 1839 by the undersigned.  Made under her hand and seal this day and date aforesaid.

George Hurn Dies at His Home Wednesday Evening - Funeral

   George Hurn died Wednesday evening at 5 o’clock at his home in Galena after suffrage from a compilation of diseases.  He was 85 years old and a native of the state of Oregon.  He came to Galena four years ago, where he lived up until his death.  He was a member of the G. A. R.     

   Besides his wife, he is survived by two children, who reside in the state of Oregon.

Aged Galena Lady Dies in Far West

Body of Mrs. Maria Garretson Hurn Arrives Wednesday-Burial At Galena Cemetery Thursday Afternoon

   Mrs. Maria Hurn, better known as Mrs. Maria Garretson, the widow of Joseph Garretson, of Galena, Indiana, died last Wednesday, October 22, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Boyd Hull, in Portland, Oregon.  Death was due to the infirmities of old age.  Mrs. Hurn was married several years ago to Mr. Hurn, who died a year and a half ago, since which time she had made her home with her daughter in the West.  She was 82 years old.

   The body, accompanied by her two daughters, Mrs. Hull, of Portland, and Mrs. August Relander, of Grand Junction, Colorado, arrived in New Albany Wednesday morning and was taken to the Kraft Undertaking establishment.  The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Galena cemetery.

   Joe James, 84, of Galena, died Sunday at Floyd Memorial Hospital.

   He was a native of Henry County, Ky.; a retired employee of Breese Veneer Company in New Albany, a retired farmer and a member of Galena United Methodist Church.

   Survivors include his wife, the former Catherine Elliott; two sons, Nolan and Carl James, both of Los Angeles; two brothers, Chester and Robert James, Galena; a sister, Hazel Kelley of Pleasureville; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

   Love Funeral Home in Palmyra is in charge of arrangements.

   Funeral services for Joe James, 84, of Galena, will be held at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Love Funeral Home, Palmyra, with burial in Galena Cemetery.  He died Sunday at Floyd Memorial Hospital.  Visitation at the funeral home will be from 8:30 to 9 p.m. today.

   Frank W. Jasper, 78, died Thursday morning at his  home in Galena.   He was a native of New Albany, and a retired painting contractor. 

   Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Alice Hunt, of Galena, and Mrs. Virginia Huckleberry, of Sellersburg; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

   The body will be at the Kraft Funeral home after 6 p.m. today.

   Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Galena Cemetery.

   Mrs. Sarah A. Coffman, widow of the late Henry J. Coffman, died last Wednesday at the home of her son, Charles Coffman, near Galena, after an illness of several weeks of a paralytic stroke.  She was 75 years old and leaves several children.

   On last Wednesday, William Creek arrived at the age of 80 years.  He walked from his home in Galena to this city and back, carrying a basket filled with vegetables from his garden, to his daughter.  Mr. Creek is a very well preserved old gentleman, without an ache or pain and bids fair to live a number of years longer.
