On the 27th of January, 1872, the
officers and members of the former Marshall County Agricultural Society
decided to re-organize the society as the Marshall County Agricultural
Association. The former organization existed
under law of Indiana but
"Whereas, by fire, and otherwise, its records have been lost and
destroyed, so that no sufficient record evidence of it’s existence and
transactions remains of record..." members decided they needed to begin
anew and drew up Articles of Association for that purpose. This would compare to what we now know as
our County Fair board except these members purchased shares and elected officers
each year from the stockholders of the association. Shares cost $5.00 and life members of the former Agricultural
Society received credit for 5th of a share but for $2.00 could hold a full
share of stock allowing them one vote.
The Annual Fair paid premiums and payment of $1.00 allowed anyone to
become an honorary member of the association with the privilege of entering
the competition for premiums at the fair.
The annual meeting of the association was to be held on the 3rd Monday
after the last day of the Annual Fair.
