MARTIN CEMETERY
Eel River Township, Hendricks County, Indiana
NE ¼ of the NE ¼ of Sec 18, T17N R2W
Not found. According to previous lists, this cemetery is located
on the southeast side of SR 234 at the S-curve from 1100 N. It is just
south of the Boone/Hendricks County Line. The current homeowners had no knowledge
of a cemetery and regretted that they had done some bulldozing to make a dirt
bike track. However, much of the woods still remain and the cemetery
could be intact.
The tradition says that Mary Martin and three of her infants
are buried here, but that is most likely false. The Mary Martin who
lived on that land is buried in Groover Cemetery with her husband. Mary
was born about 1800. According to the 1885 History of Hendricks County,
she had twelve children. Some of those children could have been buried
at this cemetery, but the graves would be very old (1830s-1840s) and most
likely not have surviving stones.
