On July 19, 2008, Jessica Felix led a workshop on cemetery restoration that was sponsored by the Hixon Cemetery Association. The day began with a classroom presentation on Indiana cemetery laws and the basics of cemetery research and the restoration process. At Hixon Cemetery volunteers were given instruction and demonstation on cleaning, repairing and resetting monuments, including lifting a large stack stone with a tripod hoist. During the rest of the afternoon, volunteers practiced these skills under the guidance of Jessica and Dan Felix.
Restoration at Hixon Cemetery is ongoing. "Save-A-Stone" work days are held every second Saturday and are open to all. Training is provided to first-timers.
