Grant
"Etched In Stone"
2008 Lilly Teacher Creativity Grant
In 2007 I applied for a grant that would allow me to learn about gravestone carving in ways I was not able to while in Indiana. With it I was able to visit the stone carving workshop of Karin Sprague in Rhode Island, attend the Association for Gravestone Studies Conference in Massachusetts, tour notable historic sites and cemeteries in New England and restore a local pioneer cemetery .  I encourage all Indiana teachers to apply for one of these grants, which are meant to be a personal renewal and an expansion of a hobby, interest, or in my case, an obsession.  The experiences I had and the time I spent with my family were priceless.
