LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF EDWARD JACKMAN


In the name of the benevolent father of all I, Edward Jackman of Franklin Township, DeKalb Co. and of the State of Indiana, do make and publish this my last will and testament.

Item 1st. I give and devise to my sons John Jackman & Cyrus Jackman one dollar each.

Item 2nd. I give and devise to my son Wesley Jackman a quarter section of land, situated in Smithfield Township DeKalb Co. Indiana.

Item 3rd. I give and devise to my beloved wife in lieu of her dower the farm on which we now reside, situated in Franklin Township, DeKalb Co. Indiana, containing about two hundred and forty acres during her natural life; and all the stock household goods, furniture, provisions, and other goods and chattels, which may be thereon at the time of my decease, during her natural life as aforesaid; she however selling so much there of as may be sufficient to pay my just debts. At the death of my wife, the real estate aforesaid, and such part of the said personal property or the proceeds thereof, as may then remain unconsumed, and expenses, I give and devise to my sons Edward Jackman and Adam Jackman and their heirs.

Item 4th. I give and devise all money due me for the use of the family now at home to be disposed of as necessity requires.

Item 5th. I give and devise to my daughters Sarah Bayer, Mary Jane Jackman, Elizabeth Jackman and Eleanor Jackman one hundred dollars each, to be paid out of the proceeds of my aforesaid estate at such a time and manner as circumstances may require.

In testimony, whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 23rd day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand, eight hundred and forty eight.
