Good Genealogy Tip! |
Save money when ordering
birth and death records for genealogical purposes by ordering
"non-certified" copies. They are considerably less
expensive and usually include more genealogical information
than certified copies! |

Boone County Research Resources
... research is never completed
... Around the corner lurks another possibility of interview,
another book to read, a courthouse to explore, a document
to verify.

Catherine Drinker Bowen (1897–1973), U.S. biographer.

with the local health department in the county where the birth
actually occurred. Death records in the ISDH Vital Records office
begin with 1900. Prior to 1900, records of death are filed only
with the local health department in the county where the death
actually occurred. For deaths occurring from 1900 to 1917, the

- Vitalrec.com
- This website provides information on how to obtain vital records
such as, birth certificates, death records, marriage licenses
and divorce decrees for each state and county in the United
States. You'll find information regarding fees and the addresses
for the county or state offices to write to. For rather costly
additional fees, the company can provide online ordering of
many records.
- Social Security Death
Index (SSDI) - Online searchable database at RootsWeb.
Clues and facts from the SSDI often can be used to further genealogical
research by enabling you to locate a death certificate, find
an obituary, discover cemetery records and track down probate
records. As marvelous a finding aid as it is, the SSDI does
not include the names of everyone, even if they had a Social
Security number (SNN). If relatives or the funeral home did
not report the death to the Social Security Administration,
or if the individual died before 1962 (when the records were
computerized) then they probably will not appear in this database.
The omission of an individual in this index does not indicate
the person is still living, it simply means that there was no
report of the person's death to
Social Security Administration.
