Bessie McConnell Dies Thursday ( September 7, 1961)
Mrs. Bessie McConnell died Thursday afternoon at the Soldiers Widows Home at Wilmington, Illinois. Mrs. McConnell was a former resident of Manchester and had been making her home in Wilmington for several years.
The remains were brought to the Cody & Son Memorial Home. Further obituary and arrangements will be announced later.

Mrs. Bessie McConnell, a former resident of Manchester, died Thursday afternoon at the Soldiers Widows Home at Wilmington, Ill., where she had resided for the last five years.
She was born at Manchester Oct. 9, 1873, daughter of Dr. Marsh H., and Elizabeth Lemon Smith. She was united in marriage with Herbert McConnell, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. McConnell was the last member of her immediate family.
Survivors are two grandsons, Herbert Sidney McConnell, Prairie Village, Kan., and Paul McConnell, Manchester; a nephew, Clarendon Smith of Jacksonville.
The decedent was a member of the Manchester Methodist Church and Eastern Star. Many years ago she was engaged in teaching.
The remains are at the Cody & Son Memorial Home in Jacksonville, where services will be held at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon, with Dr. Frank Marston officiating. Burial will be made in Manchester Cemetery.
