MANCHESTER CEMETERY OBITUARIES



LAWSON, ARTHUR

Taken from the Winchester, Scott Co., IL library; "Scrapbooks Collected by Anna Haskell" there is no mention of the newspapers name (most likely Jacksonville Journal)

Arthur Lawson, eldest son of Andrew and Margaret Pruitt Lawson was born near Manchester, Illinois September 12, 1859, and passed away at the home of his son, Toney, west of Winchester, Wednesday, October 2, 1935 being 76 years, 20 days at the time of his death.

He was united in marriage to Emily Angelo, February 1, 1881, and to this union were born six children, two sons dying in infancy. The following children remain with his beloved companion to mourn his death: Albert, of Valley City; Toney, Mrs. Beatrice Drake and Mrs. Myrtle Neff, all of the vicinity of Winchester; 15 grand children and five great grand children; one sister, Mrs. Laura Lovell, Keokuk, Iowa; one brother, Alex Lawson, of Murrayville and a host of relatives and friends.

He was a hard working man, having cleared many acres of timber in the bottom lands and was always ready to help in time of need and was never happier than when his family was gathered around him. He was a strong believer in christianity, but never united with any church.

Funeral services were held at the Winchester Baptist Church Friday morning, October 4, 1935 at 11 o'clock. Elder Homer Evans officiated.

The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Cleo Haven, Naomi and Lucy Lawson.

Interment was in Manchester Cemetery, the pall bearers being Alva and Leslie Drake, Dean, George & William Lawson & Murl Neff.


LAWSON, EMILY CLEMENTINE ANGELO

Mrs. Emmaline Lawson, 86, Winchester, died in a hospital at Jacksonville, Sunday morning at 11 o'clock {2 Aug 1941}.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Drake and Mrs. Myrtle Neff, both of Winchester, and two sons, Albert and Tony Lawson of Winchester.

The remains were removed to the Danner Funeral Home, where services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. R.L. Schwab officiating.

The flowers ere in charge of Mrs. Rose Pointer, Mrs. Maxine Blake, Miss Frances Gobel and Mrs. Mary Priest.

Interment was in the Manchester cemetery. The pall bearers being Geo., Leonard and William Lawson, Alvin Drake, Merle Neff and Harold Blake.

Scott County Native Dies

Robert A. Lawson, a native of Scott County, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Florence Burbridge at Hillview. Death occurred Friday morning at 9:50 o'clock {12/9/1949}.

He was born July 7, 1866 in Scott County, son of George W. and Nancy Lawson. His wife, the former Hulda Draper proceeded him in death.

He is survived by three sons, Roy, Neponset, IL; Fletcher, Hillview and Gussie, Table Grove; two daughters Mrs. Edith Cox and Mrs. Burbridge; one brother, Edwin, all of Hillview.

Services were conducted at 2 pm Sunday at Hillview Baptist.
