Bluffs Weekly Times June 29, 1918
Henry Lovekamp, the six year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Lovekamp, residing two miles northeast of Bluffs sustained burns Thursday, about three o'clock which resulted in his death three hours later. The boy and his sister were playing in the blacksmith shop at his home where his father did his repairing and in his play he picked up what he thought to be an empty gasoline can and thrust it into the fire. The can immediately exploded throwing burning oil on the child.
His sister ran to the house for aid. The mother who was the only one at home at the time ran to the child and tried to tear the burning clothes from him, but he got away from her, ran and jumped into a tub of water. Dr. Evans of Bluffs was called and gave all the medical aid possible, but the child died at six o'clock.
He is survived by his parents and one sister and one brother, each younger than he. The family has the deepest sympathy of many friends in their bereavement. Henry had made numerous friends wherever he went and his untimely death will come as a shock to all.
Funeral services were conducted from the Neeleyville Lutheran church Sunday, at 10 o'clock a. m., Rev. Deterding officiating, and interment occurred at the Neeleyville cemetery.
