MATTOON - Dale Lemon Curtis, 85, of Mattoon, passed away 10:50 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. burial in the Manchester Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Schilling Funeral Home, 1301 Charleston Ave., in Mattoon.

Dale was born on February 9, 1925 near Manchester, Illinois, the son of James and Jessie (Lemon) Curtis. He married Edith Catherine Washurn on June 5, 1959. Survivors include his wife, Edith Catherine Curtis of Mattoon, his daughters, Barbara L. Clark and husband Mike of Crystal Lake; Beverly L. Holland and husband Richard of Palatine; his grandchildren Tad Clark, Matthew Clark, Cameron Clark and wife Jenny, Ray Hamaker and wife Alecia, Katie Lowe and Husband Dustin, Stacy Rogers and husband Tom, Becca Barney and husband Jeff as well as ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and two sons and one daughter. Dale worked and retired from CIPS after over forty years of service. He was a member of the Lions Club and Toastmasters. He was also a member of the First Christian Church where he was an Elder, Deacon and community outreach committee member for many years. He also served as a Sunday School teacher and delivered peace meals. He loved to travel, read books, walk and tell jokes and stories. Memorial donations in his honor are suggested to First Christian Church or the Lions Club.
