1914-2009

JACKSONVILLE

Sarah Ruth Craig, 95, of Jacksonville, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Barton W. Stone Home.

She was born June 9, 1914, in Paris, Mo., the daughter of John F. and Sadie Pogue Stewart. She married Delos N. Craig on March 7, 1936, in Jerseyville, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1986.

She is survived by three sons, James (wife, Ruth) Craig of Waverly, Richard (wife, Irma) Craig of Washington, Ill., and Michael (wife, Sheryl) Craig of West Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren, Brian (wife, Laura) Craig of Jacksonville, Rhonda (husband, Greory) Albers of Golden, Shannon (husband, Kenneth) Roberts of Washington, Ill., Tristan Craig of Creve Coeur, Amanda Craig of Chicago and Joshua Craig of West Des Moines, Iowa; four greag-grandchildren, Dillon and Brianna Craig, both of Jacksonville, and Sarah and Andrew Roberts, both of Washington, Ill.; and two brothers, Floyd Stewart and Prentice (wife, Bernice) Stewart, both of Waverly. She was preceded in derath by one great-grandson, James Dalton Craig; two brothers, Merril Stewart (surviving wife, Ruth Ann of Waverly) and Darrell Stewart (surviving wife, Sharon of Waverly); and three sisters, Anna Ebrey, Bessie Spradlin and Eileen Gunther.

Mrs. Craig retired from Passavant Area Hospital. Earlier in life, she had worked at J. Capps & Sons. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, her pets and especially loved cooking for her family.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Manchester Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will meet friends 5-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Centenary United Methodist Church or Barton W.
