AUBURN
Richard D. Comerford, 76, of Auburn, died Saturday evening,
June 15, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born July 1, 1925, in Valley City, the son of Ralph and Frances Meeham Comerford. He married Mary Sanders Aug. 29, 1947, in Pittsfield, and she survives in Auburn.
He is also survived by four daughters, Kimberly (husband, Jim) Simmons of Huntley, Jamie (husband, Tim) Comerford-Hickmann of Springfield, Kathleen B. Comerford of Houston, and Mary Jo Van Stan of Barrington; two sons, Thomas William (wife, Holly) of Fox River Grove and William Matthew of Barrington; seven grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Rosemary Neeley of Ketchum, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Comerford was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II stationed in Pearl Harbor. He was employed by American Optical and Lions Safety Co. in sales of safety equipment for 35 years. He was a member of St. Benedicts Catholic Church. He was also a diehard Cardinal fan and a Democrat.
A memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mark's Church in Bluffs, with burial at Green Cemetery in Bluffs. Memorials are suggested to the Seven County Kidney Fund, 701 N. 1st Street, Springfield, Ill. 62702. The Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home of Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
