EWING LANKFORD FUNERAL
SERVICES HELD SUNDAY
Mr. Ewing Lankford, 83, a resident of this community for the past 65 years, passed away at his home August 11. The body was removed to the Bates Funeral Home and prepared for burial. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Baldridge from the Methodist church of which the deceased had been a member for nearly a half century.
Mr. Lankford was favorably known here where he operated the Van Gundy farm for many years before he purchased a small farm of his own and later retired from active work
Obituary
Ewing Lankford, son of Lemuel and Caroline Lankford, was born at Seigel, Ill., October 21, 1855, and died at his home in Bluffs August 11, 1939 at 11 p.m., at the age of 83 years, 9 months, and 20 days. He was the last survivor of seven children.
He was united in marriage to Sarah Susan Smith, November 8, 1877. To this union eleven children were born, Clara, Charles, Mrs. Laura Harvey, Elmer and Harry, all preceding him in death.
Besides his widow he is survived by the following children: Perry E., of Bluffs; Jesse A. and Mrs. Viola Allen of Jacksonville; Mrs. Nellie Priest of Winchester; Mrs. Agnes Meacham and Mrs. Lillie Bentz of Springfield; twenty-three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Mr. Lankford was a retired farmer. He spent his entire life in Illinois with the exception of a few years they lived in Missouri. He had been in ill health for the last four years, being bedfast for the last two.
Although his death was expected momentarily it was a shock to all who loved him and he will be sadly missed by all his friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Methodist church, with the pastor Rev. G. E. Baldridge officiating.
