GEO. HADRWICK [HARDWICK] was born in Montgomery county, Kentucky on the first day of April, 1808. His parents died when he was quite young. He was raised in Clark county, Kentucky, and, at the age of twenty-two, emigrated to Illinois, in the spring of 1830, and settled one and a half miles west of Winchester, which at that time contained only a few log cabins. He resided where he first settled four years, when he moved and settled on Walnut Creek, five miles northwest of Winchester, where he remained until the spring of 1857, when he moved to where he now resides. He was married to Miss MARTHA ELLEN EDMUNSON of Clark county, Kentucky, on the 13th of September, 1829. They had one child, THOMAS, who now resides near his father's residence, and is one of the most successful farmers in the county. He had the misfortune to lose his wife, who died in April 1844, He was again married to Mrs. LOUISA CLARK, a daughter of WILLIAM CANADAY, a native of Kentucky, on the 22d of January, 1845. They have had three children, only one of whom is now living, and is at present attending school at Winchester. Mr. H. is one of the few men of the county who is justly termed an old settler. When he first came into the country, the sight of wild deer, turkeys, wolves, &c., on the broad prairies, was of common occurrence. When he came with his family to Illinois and settled in Morgan county (now Scott), he came as most all other settlers of that day, very poor; but by his fair and honorable dealings, and hard labor, he has become forehanded, and has to-day one of the best farms in Scott county; his farm consists of six hundred acres of fine tillable land. (A view of his old homestead appears elsewhere in the map). He has been a consistent member of the Missionary Baptist Church for thirty-five years past. Mr. and Mrs. HARDWICK are both hale and hearty, and bid fair to live many days to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
