THOMAS A. SWARINGUIN


Thomas A. Swaringuin (1831-1908). Married Mary Ann Hartswell in 1851 and had three children, John, Chansus and Clarentine. Second marriage to Martha Hall England, a war widow, who had three children: Laura, Hettie and William. Thomas and Martha's daughter, Kitte Daisy, died at age nineteen in 1890. T. A. Swaringuin opened the first lumber yard in Athens, Illinois in the 1880s. It was located on Hargrave Street. He also sunk the first coal mine nearby in 1885. He is buried in Hall Cemetery in Athens.
