UPDATE JUNE 2005

Location: NW 1/4 Section 16, Township 16 N, Range 11 W

Ample proof exists that all three names apply to this abandoned, terribly brushy cemetery. Attempts to prove the names by land records have been unfruitful. However, death certificates and obituaries of people buried here carry all three names. It is known that several bodies buried here have since been removed to other cemeteries. Area residents insist there was never a church building here. The cemetery is located 1.2 miles east of Brown's Crossroads, which is also the site of Triopia High School. The high school is located about two miles north of Concord. From Triopia High school drive east on State Aid Road 19 (also known as Road 2150N) for 1.2 miles until you arrive at the intersection with Road 1325 E. The cemetery is located in the trees about 100 feet north of this intersection. If the crops and brush are so tall that tombstones can't be seen, evergreen trees in the cemetery serve as sentinels marking the area. The cemetery shows much evidence of damage by burrowing animals.

Much thanks to Duane & Betty Albert and baby granddaughter Lindsay (supervisors) who located this cemetery and special thanks to Duane who braved the weeds and brush to take the photos included here.

Pam Gaines, her family and several others worked at least two weekends on this cemetery during May 2005. As the photographs above show - their work has improved this forlorn and forgotten cemetery at least 1000%. I'm sure there are other stones in this cemetery which we didn't find. Many stones are down - we were only able to find and dig up those which had a corner sticking out of the ground. Hopefully sometime in the future we'll be able to find more stones. In the meantime - many many thanks to Pam and her group of workers for the wonderful work they have done here.

If a name appears in red, click on the name to bring up a photo of that individual's tombstone. Click on "Obit" to bring up an obituary for that person.
