Warren E. Baker

Hickory, N.C. - Warren E. Baker, 78, of Hickory, formerly of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Lutheran Nursing Home in Hickory.

He was born May 24, 1922, in Franklin the son of Oliver and Dalla Mills Baker. He married Eris Cruzan in 1942 in Troy, Mo.

Mr. Baker was a 1940 graduate of Franklin High School and a 1963 graduate of University of Cincinnati. He worked as an accountant for Pullman Trailmobile Co. in Chicago, retiring in 1981 as manager of state taxes. He retired from Swift Independent Packing Co. in Chicago in 1986. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a sergeant during World War II in the European and Pacific theaters.

He was a former member of the Chicago Tax Club, a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Harmony Lodge 3, the York Rite of Free Masonry, Springfield Scottish Rite, attaining the 32nd degree, and Zingabad Grotto.

Survivors: wife, Eris and a sister, Alberta Fritz of Temple, Texas.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Grace United Methodist Church. Burial: Ebenezer Cemetery.

Cody and Son Memorial Home in Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements.
