ABRAM WOOD DIES
TUESDAY MORNING

Was Ten Times Alderman of Jackson
ville--Was Prominent in Masonic
Circles--Funeral Thursday.

Abram Wood, ten times a member of the Jacksonville city council, for sixty years a resident of the city, and well known in Masonic circles, died at 7 o'clock Tuesday morning at his home, 303 West College street. Mr. Wood had been in poor health for about three years. His last illness was of only a few days duration and death came unexpectedly. He died peacefully and quietly, dropping to sleep.

Abram Wood was born near Delph, Yorkshire, England, June 26, 1836. He was the son of William and Nannie Wood. He came with his parents to this country and settled in Jacksonville in 1844. He was married March 10, 1860, to Miss Annie craven. To them were born five girls and four boys.

Mr. Wood was a carpenter and building contractor. For twenty-six years he was in partnership with J. L. Montgomery in the contracting business. Until three years ago he was an active business man. Failing health compelled his retirement. Mr. Wood was elected alderman ten times. He was a member of Grace M.E. Church. Since 1869 he has been a member of the Masonic fraternity. He was master of Harmony lodge No. 3, A.F. & A.M., 1873-1878. He was a member of Jacksonville chapter, No. 3 Royal Arch Masons, a member and past commander of Hospitaller Commandery, NO. 31, Knights Templar.

Mr. Wood is survived by his widow and the following children: William, Mrs. William Huffman, Joseph T., Mrs. W. L. Leach, Jacksonville; Mrs. Joseph B. Telfer, Peoria; Mrs. Edward Hammel, Winfield, Kan.; Mrs. R. M. Sullivan, Springfield; Clarence R., East St. Louis; Wilbur C. ONe sister survives, Mrs. G. R. Metcalf, and thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren.

Mrs. Telfer reached the city Monday evening. It was expected that Mrs. Sullivan would arrive Tuesday afternoon and Mrs. Hammel Tuesday night.

The funeral will be held at the residence, 363 West College street, at 2:30 Thursday afternoon in charge of Dr. F. A. McCarty. The burial will be in charge of the Masonic fraternity.
