JACKSONVILLE

Veda Lawrence, 83, of Jacksonville, died Thursday morning, Oct. 4, 2001, at the Jacksonville Convalescent Center.

She was born Feb. 28, 1918, in Starksville, Miss., the daughter of DeWitt and Stella Heathman Hemphill. She married Frank E. Lawrence Sr., and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Frank E. Jr. of Jacksonville and David L. (wife, Jean) of Dallas; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded by one brother, William Hemphill; and two sisters, Daisy Parker and Muzeter Flowers.

Mrs. Lawrence was retired from Capitol Records. She was active in volunteer work with the Salvation Army.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Cody & Son Memorial Home, with burial at Jacksonville East Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to the Salvation Army for a meal and fellowship immediately following the burial. Friends may call at the funeral home for one hour prior to the services Monday.
