HALEY, EARLY LEROY "SCUD"

"Scud Haley died Saturday; Funeral Monday

Early Leroy (Scud) Haley, 46 died at 5 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 1981, at his residence, 24 Maplecrest Court. He had been employed at Smitty's Seat Covers in Jacksonville for the past several years.

He was born in Jacksonville, May 29, 1935, a son of Warren Kenneth and Wahneitta V. Keirl Haley.

He was married twice, first to Shirley Elaine Westrope on July 3, 1954, and she survives with the following children, Cynthis Joy, wife of Timothy W. Cully of Jacksonville, Steven Earl in the U.S. Navy, and Candace Elaine, wife of Marti Lee Slavens of Omaha, Neb.

He then married Marykaye Oller Weems on Dec. 19, 1970, and she survives with the following children, Earl Leroy, Jr., Jeffrey Lee, and Ramona Kay, all of this city, four step-children and two step-grandsons, all of Jacksonville, a sister, Sharon Lee, wife of Floyd Virgin of Manchester, his mother, two brothers, Walter Warren and Harold Dean of Jacksonville, and one grandchild, Melinda Elaine Cully. He was preceded in death by his father and a grandchild.

The body is at the Williamson Funeral Home where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, with burial to be in Jacksonville East cemetery. Friends may call anything after 4 p.m. Sunday.

HALEY, RUTH BALLARD

From a local newspaper, date unknown, pertaining to the death of Ruth Ashby Ballard Haley who died November 26, 1977

Ruth Ballard Haley Dies Saturday at 86; Set Funeral Tuesday

Mrs. Ruth Ballard Haley, formerly of 901 North Diamond, died at 10:35 p.m. Saturday at Passavant hospital. She was 86 years of age.

She was born August 2, 1891, in Macoupin county, daughter of William Thomas and Martha Searcy Ashby. She married J. E. Ballard September 29, 1909 in Jacksonville. She later married Walter W. Haley August 3, 1942 in Bowling Green, Missouri. He preceded in death in 1969.

She is survived by two sons, Percy Ballard of Jacksonville and Walter Ballard of Roseville, California; a daughter, Catherine Nunes of Jacksonville; and a step-daughter: Dorothy Odell of Macon, Georgia. There are seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several great step-grandchildren. There are 19 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two step-sons, four sisters, and three brothers. She had been employed on the sixth floor at St. John's Hospital in Springfield for 16 years before retiring.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Cody and Son Memorial Home with Rev. Ronald C. Colton, officiating. Interment will be in the Jacksonville East cemetery.

HALEY, WAHNEITTA VIOLA KEIRL

Wahneitta V. Haley dies Friday; Rites set for Monday

Mrs. Wahneitta Viola Haley, 66, formerly of 300 W. Beecher, and more recently 1517 W. Walnut, died Friday, June 24, at 12:30 p.m. at Passavant hospital.

She was born in Jacksonville Oct. 27, 1916, fourth child of Harry K. and Lona Estella Morrow Keirl.

She was a life long resident of Jacksonville, her paternal grandparents having come from England to America in 1889.

She was united in marriage with Warren Kenneth Haley in this city on Sept. 9, 1933, and he preceded in death on Nov. 8, 1944.

Surviving are two sons: Walter Warren and Harold dean Haley, both of this city; a daughter: Sharon Lee, wife of Floyd E. Virgin, Manchester; sixteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother: Russell A. Keirl, Jacksonville; and a half-sister: Charlotte M., wife of Albert M. Witham of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son, a grandson, a great-grandson, a brother, a sister, and a half-brother; William Lee Shawen.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Williamson Funeral Home with burial in Jacksonville East Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

[Note: I am not certain why my deceased brother's name was not included in the above. He was Earl Leroy Haley. The deceased brother was Harry S. Keirl and the sister was Helen Evelyn Keirl, wife of William C. Bowles of Bay City, Texas. Walter Warren Haley, 8 May 2002.

HALEY, WARREN KENNETH

BUSINESSMAN PASSES AWAY
Assistant Manager of Kline's Dies Wednesday Morning at Passavant

Warren Kenneth Haley, assistant manager of Kline's store in this city, passed away at Passavant Hospital Wednesday morning at 7:15 o'clock after an illness of approximately one month.

He was born on March 29, 1913 in Jacksonville, the son of Walter W. and Elsie Walker Haley. On September 9th, 1933 he was united in marriage with Wahneitta Keirl of this city. Other than the widow, four children survive: Walter Warren, Earl Leroy, Harold Dean and Sharon Lee; his father, Walter W. Haley and stepmother of Springfield; one sister: Mrs. Buel Odell of this city and one brother: Leroy Haley of Attica, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his mother. Deceased was a member of the First Baptist church of this city.

The remains are at the Williams Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. W. J. Boston officiating. Burial will be made in Jacksonville cemetery.
