FANNING, SARAH JANE DIKIS

Mrs. George W. Fanning

Funeral services over the remains of Mrs. George W. Fanning took place at the family residence on North Prairie street at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon.

The services were in charge of Rev. W. H. Wilder, of Centenary church. A prayer was offered, after which Rev. Wilder read several passages of scripture and mad a short talk on the life and character of the deceased wife and mother and spoke feelingly of the large family she had raised to maturity, all of whom with the one exception were present at the services. Several suitable hymns were sung and the services at the house were closed by prayer.

Interment took place in the Jacksonville cemetery. The bearers were the five sons of the deceased and a son-in-law, Mr.Yunker

Sarah Jane Dikes was born near Murrayville, February 4, 1844 and died at her late home in the city, Monday morning May 7, 1906. She was married to Mr. George W. Fanning October 17, 1862. Ten children were born to this union, one of whom Mrs. Mattie Hart, died February 28, 1903, and one in infancy.

She is survived by five sons and three daughters; Fletcher and Earl, of St. Louis, MO, Eddie, of Springfield; James and Harvery of this city; Mrs. Princie Yunker of Granite City, IL; Mrs Ida May Hart of Saidora, IL and Mrs. Nellie Mills, of Boulder, CO. Also three sisters and one brother; Mrs. Belle Reid of Kansas, Mrs Maggie Guthrie of Iowa Mrs. Lou Fanning of Nortonville, and Will Dikis of Palmyra.
