MARY J. EVANS
1905 - 2001

Mary J. Evans, 97, of Jacksonville, died late Sunday evening, July 15, 2001, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

She was born March 21, 1905, in Kane, the daughter of Benjamin W. and Ester C. Menezes Kirk. She first married Tom Pappas and he preceded her in death in 1964. She then married Edward P. Trask, and he preceded her in death in 1980. She later married Orville Evans and he preceded her in death in 1985.

She was the last of her immediate family and was preceded in death by one brother, Earl Kirk; and one sister, Geraldine Peters.

Mrs. Evans was a beautician and owned and operated Mary's Hollywood Beauty Shop in Jacksonville for many years. She devoted numerous hours assisting children as a volunteer for the Department of Child and Family Services. In recognition of her volunteer work, she was presented the Governor's Volunteer Service Award in 1973. She was a member of Central Christian Church and a charter member of the Jolly Y's at the Sherwood Eddy YMCA.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Jacksonville East Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation, but friends may call from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the Gillham-Buchanan Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Memorial gifts are suggested to Central Christian Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
