CRAIN, ISAAC REEVE
Daily Illinois Courier, Wednesday, 16 February 1898

The death of Isaac Reeve Crain, one of the oldest citizens of this county, occurred at his home on Oak Street Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock. Mr. Crain had been sick with pneumonia for several weeks and his death was not unexpected. To mourn his loss he leaves a brother, William M. Crain, of this city; one sister, Mrs. Keren Boyer of Pisgah; a wife and four children. The children are William Marion Crain, aged 9; Sarah, 7; Isaac Baugston (Bankston), 5, and Martha 2.

Isaac Crain was born in what is now Diamond Grove cemetery Oct. 29, 1829, and at the time of his death was in his 69th year. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Crain, who were among the first settlers in this county. With the exception of a few years spent in Jersey county, Mr. Crain has passed his entire life within the limits of Morgan county. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, having united with that organization in 1843 under the ministry of Rev. Christopher Hout, and at old Salem church, a few miles east of the city. He was also a member of the Harmony Masonic lodge. He began life as a farmer, but was forced some years ago on account of ill health, to abandon this pursuit and the last few years of his life have been passed in this city. He was married 11 years ago to Miss Lydia Plummer, who, with the four children, survive him.

During Mr. Crain's entire life he has been held high in the esteem of all his associates and friends as a man of integrity, honorable and upright, advocating and practicing good sound business principles.

The funeral will be held from his late residence Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and the remains will be interred in the East cemetery.
