DEATH OF MR. SCHONEWISE
Passed Away After Months of Patient Sickness, Aged 73 Years. Burial at Sandridge German Cemetery.
Christian Schonewise, son of Frederick and Kathern Schonewise, was born in Gotckheim, Waldich, Germany. Jan. 17, 1842. Died Feb 24, 1915, aged 73 years, 1 month, and 7 days. He came to the United States when only nine years old, remaining one year in New York state then coming to Menard county. He settled near Sandridge, where he remained until fifteen years ago, when he removed to this city.
He was converted when 13 years of age and united with the Sandridge M.E. church. Thus he grew to be one of its most loyal supporters. He transferred his membership to the Petersburg M.E. church in October, 1911, and was a member of the official board at the time of his death.
The decedent was twice married, first to Mrs. Sophia Deppe in 1867, who departed this life in 1903. TO this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters, George and Frederick Scheonewise of Sandrige, Mrs. Albert Boeker of Newmansville and Mrs. Frank King of Panhandle, Texas.
On May 1, 1909, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Sophia Dorn, who survives him. His only sister, Mrs. Katheren Weideman of Adams, Nebraska, having just preceded him in death Feb. 9, 1915. In addition to the above he leaves surviving him twenty grand-children and two brothers, Henry Scheonewise of Clay Center, Kansas and Charles Scheonewise of Adams, Nebraska, to mourn his lose, also a host of friends.
The funeral was held at the M.E. church in this city on Saturday morning last at 10 a.m. conducted by his pastor, Rev. J.C. Bell, assisted by his neighbor, Rev. Charles E. Smoot. The burial was at Sandridge German cemetery.
Thus passes away one of Menard county a most highly respected and substantial citizens and a consistent Christian gentleman.
