Died in Petersburg at 3 o'clock Wednesday morning, Sept. 7th, after a short illness, of typhoid fever, aged 34 years.
Mr. Whipp was born near Sweetwater, and resided within the boundaries of Menard county nearly all his life. He was never possessed of rugged health, and some years since removed to Missouri, but receiving no benefit from the change, he returned after a short stay there. A few weeks ago he became associated with Mr. A. Hurd in the dry-goods business, under the firm name of Hurd & Whipp. The firm had just become fairly settled in business when Mr. Whipp was stricken with the disease that terminated in his death. He was a member of the Christian church, and an active and prominent worker in he Lord's vineyard. In his death Petersburg and Menard county lose an exemplary citizens. The funeral services were held at the Christian church, at 10 o'clock Thursday morning, Rev. A. P. Cobb officiating, and the remains were then taken to Rose Hill Cemetery for interment. Mr. Whipp leaves a widow, three children, and other relatives who have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.
