Abe Woodrum, aged 69 years, 8 months and 14 days died at his home on East Main street at 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, following a year's illness to do carcinoma of the jaw.

Mr. Woodrum was born November 19, 1865 at Liberty, Kentucky, the son of James and Mary Woodrum and came to Illinois when 18 years of age. He engaged in farming, residing on a farm near Tallula, and was an ardent worker until ill health caused him to limit his activities and he moved to Tallula and rented small plots of ground and did farming on a limited scale. Live stock and tilling of the soil were his life's work.

On January 23, 1888 he was united in marriage to Miss Sallie B. Lowe of Merrimac, KY. To this union were born six children, Mrs. Clarence Stier of Petersburg, Arthur Woodum of Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Earl Parsons, Mrs. William Bryant and Louie Woodrum of Tallula and William S. of Ashland who with their mother are left to mourn his death. Besides the aforementioned he is survived by one brother, Berry Woodrum of Tallula and two half brothers, Ben of Petersburg and Edward of Sherman. One sister, Mrs. Robert Eades of Colorado, preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Tallula Christian church.

Funeral services were conducted from the Christian church Thursday March 8 at 2 p.m. by Rev. E.K. Beckett. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery.

The community has lost a good citizen and wonderful neighbor in his passing.

Mrs. Woodrum, One of County's oldest Residents, Dies at 97 Mrs. Lou Bell Woodrum, widow of the late Berry Woodrum and a resident of Tallula through most of her life, died at the Tallula-Walker Nursing Home at 6:30 a.m. Friday, April 21. Mrs. Woodrum was past ninety-seven years old, and was one of the county's oldest residents.

She was born Oct. 26, 1863 in Taylor County, Kentucky, a daughter of Henry and Eliza Murrell Lowe. On Sept. 6, 1881 she was married to Berry Woodrum, in Liberty, Kentucky. They came to Menard County and lived in the Tallula community throughout the rest of their lives, Mr. Woodrum preceded his wife in death on May 24, 1956.

Mrs. Woodrum was a member of the Tallula Christian Church, and so long as her health permitted, was active in the affairs of the church.

She is survived by one son, I.C. Woodrum of Tallula; two daughters, Mrs. Leslie Raikes of Greenview and Mrs. Ezra Masten of Tallula; one sister, Mrs. Ollie May Cornelius of Carlinville; twenty-two grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren.

The body was brought to the Thompson-Harms & Hurley Funeral Home here and funeral services were held at the Tallula Christian Church at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Edward A. Feisal. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.
