Mrs. Mary Rogers Dies Suddenly

Mrs. Mary Rogers died suddenly at her home in Middletown Sunday evening, May 31, at about 9:45 o'clock. She had been in rather poor health for a couple of years but, seemed to be better than usual during Sunday. She ate a hearty meal at noon but in the evening after retiring was stricken with heart trouble and died in a few minutes.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Wm. Van Zile preaching the sermon. Three hymns: "Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown?" "Somebody Knows," and "My Father Knows," were sung by a quartet comprising Mrs. Anna Glenn, Mrs. Thos. Croft, Carroll Stone and James Snyder. Mrs. Harold Wright was at the piano.

The pall bearers were: D.J. Rayburn, V.C. Cline, John Keest, John Mecay and Grant Heatherwick. The following girls carried the floral offerings: Ora Boyer, Alice Boyer, Emma Skelton, Rose Kaskhack, Rosie Boyer and Della Dye.

Internment was made in Irish Grove cemetery.

Mary Ellen Gambrel was born in Springfield, Ill., on Dec. 8, 1860. She was married to James Monroe Rogers on August 9, 1877. He passed away in 1915. The deceased had been a resident of this community for many years.

The following children survive: William, Koch and Lee of Middletown; Mrs. Ellen Fortner of Newton; Robert Rogers of Peruque, Mo.; Henry Rogers of Peoria; Frank Rogers of Edwards; Mrs. Wilma Cordi of Wheeling, W.V.

Mr. and Mrs. Rogers were the parents of twelve children, of whom three daughters and one son had preceded her in death. There are 18 grandchildren and one great grand child living. Her age was 70 years, 5 months and 23 days.
