ENGLAND, WILLIAM H.

WILLIAM H. ENGLAND, 89, FORMER RESIDENT HERE, DIED IN SPRINGFIELD JAN. 23

William H. England, 89, a resident of this community for most of his life, passed away at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23. He had resided in Springfield the past few years.

Those to survive are five sons, Primm, N. J.; Thomas, Fred, Zoel, and Donald, all of Springfield; one daughter, Mrs. Velma Foster, of Springfield; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Mott and Son Funeral Home with Roland Florence, pastor of the Christian church, officiating. Burial will be made in Hall Cemetery.

Luther Cantrall dead at 92

Luther Cantrall, 92 years old, died at 12:55 a.m. at Sunny Acres Nursing Home at Petersburg on Monday, Aug. 23. He was a former resident of Athens.

Mr. Cantrall was born in Athens on December 23, 1883, the son of Robert and Louisa Goff Cantrall. He was a member of the Athens Methodist Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Rosalyn Graham of Sherman; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife Carrie, Dec. 17, 1964.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25, at Mott and Henning Funeral Home with burial in Hall Cemetery at Athens.

CANTRALL, HENRY

Henry Cantrall dead at 68

Henry Cantrall of Athens died at Memorial Medical Center at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22 at the age of 68 years.

Mr. Cantrall was born on May 29, 1906 in Sangamon County, the son of Samuel and Florence Grant Cantrall. He was a member of the Athens United Methodist Church and Van Meter Lodge No. 762 in Athens.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian; two daughters, Mrs. Marilyn Tobias and Mrs. Joyce Kern, both of R. R. 1, Athens; two sisters, Mrs. Lois Reinders and Mrs. Hazel Estill, both of Springfield; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 24, at Mott and Henning Funeral Home of Athens with Rev. Randall Wolford officiating. Burial was in Hall Cemetery of Athens.

CANTRALL, NINA SWINGLE

NINA CANTRALL, 78, DIES
DEATH VERY SUDDEN LAST FRIDAY AFTERNOON

Nina Cantrall, 78, widow of the late Thomas L. Cantrall, passed away at her home here about 3:40 p.m. last Friday, May 22. She had not been ill and her death was a distinct shock to the community.

She was a member of the Athens Methodist Church. She was born in Athens, the daughter of William and Eliza Graham Swingle.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Phil S. Shurrager of Chicago; one granddaughter; and one great grandson.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. last Sunday afternoon from the Mott and Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Phil Pierce officiating. Interment was made in Hall Cemetery.

JENSEN, HETTIE ANN ENGLAND

MRS. HETTIE ANN JENSEN

Mrs. Hettie Ann, wife of Carl C. Jensen, died at her home in this city last Sunday morning after an illness of a few weeks.

Hettie Ann England was born in Athens, Illinois, April 12, 1860, and passed away November 27, 1932 at the age of 72 years, 7 months, and 7 days.

Her early life was spent in and near Athens. She became a member of the Athens Christian Church when she was fifteen years of age and continued in that belief until her death.

She was united in marriage to Carl C. Jensen on December 24, 1880. To this union four children were born, all of whom survive.

Surviving are her husband, Carl C. Jensen; three sons, William A., Emery C., and Harry A.; one daughter, Mrs. Daisy Short; one sister, Mrs. Laura Casey; one brother, William England; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church, Tuesday afternoon, November 29, at 2 o�clock, Rev. Joachim officiating.

Interment was made in the Hall Cemetery.

CANTERBURY, CHARLES F.

CHARLES F. CANTERBURY DIED AT DAUGHTER�S HOME

Charles Fremont Canterbury of Springfield, a former resident of Athens, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. DeWitt H. Montgomery, 1617 South Pasfield Street, at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 1936, at the age of 77 years.

Mr. Canterbury was born in Athens and spent the greater part of his life in this community where he was engaged in farming for a number of years, later retiring. He moved to Athens where he and his family lived until 28 years ago when they moved to Springfield.

Mr. Canterbury was 77 years old at the time of his death, his wife having preceded him 12 years ago as a result of an accident when a truck making a fire call ran into the family car in Springfield.

Surviving are four children, Mrs. A. Edwin Washburn of New Berlin; Mrs. Montgomery, Miss Margaret Canterbury, and Charles P. Canterbury, Springfield; and a brother, Perry of Buffalo, Wyo.

Funeral services were held last Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Montgomery, at 2 p.m., Rev. E. C. Sandmeyer officiating. Interment was made in Hall Cemetery, Athens.

CLINE, ALLEN

ALLEN CLINE, 77, DIES; RETIRED FARMER, WIDELY KNOWN

Allen Cline, 77, resident of Athens the last few years and farmer in this community until his retirement, passed away at the residence Monday night about 11:15 p.m. For many years, the family resided just east of Athens. His death resulted from a heart attack.

He was born in Waverly, Ohio, and came to this community when a lad of about 14 years and had resided here continuously since that time.

Mr. Cline was about the streets as usual and had enjoyed a Sunday dinner and family gathering at the home of his granddaughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Eddings.

He was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away August 1939. Those who survive to mourn his passing include four daughters, Marie at home, Mrs. Jay (Elma) Whitney, Mrs. Allen (Elise) Cantrall, all of Athens; Mrs. Louis (Eliza) Radiker, New Berlin; one son, Otto, of Springfield; two brothers, John of Athens, and Wesley of Canada; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

He was a member of the Athens Christian Church and also of the Modern Woodmen of America.

The remains were removed to the Mott and Son Funeral Home and services were conducted from there at 2 p.m. Thursday, with Rev. Dean Hance, pastor of the Christian church, officiating. Interment was made in Hall Cemetery.


JENSEN, CHARLES

ATHENS � Charles Jensen, 60, of Hoffman Estates, formerly of Wauconda and Athens, died Tuesday, May 7, 1t 2:30 a.m. at his residence.

Mr. Jensen was a graduate of Athens High School and Culver Stockton College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later received a master�s degree in education from Northern Illinois University. He was in the education field for 33 years as a mathematics teacher, coach, athletic director, and dean of students.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Becker Jensen; two daughters, Julianne Jensen of Oakland, Calif., and Karla Jensen of Hoffman Estates; two sons, Douglas Jensen of Hoffman Estates and David Jensen of Cupertino, Calif.; mother, Mildred Bernice Jensen of Springfield; two sisters, Phyllis Seipel of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Rita Kalaski of Bloomington; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 10 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mott and Henning Funeral Home in Athens. Private family burial will be held at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
