CANTRALL, JASPER HARDIN

Athens (Illinois) Free Press, 21 May 1920

Another respected and venerable citizen of Athens has passed to the Great Beyond. Jasper Hardin Cantrall passed away at his home Tuesday evening, May 18, 1920 at 8 o'clock after a long decline in health. Deceased had been in poor health for some time and he was taken worse last Sunday and the end came in the early evening hours of last Tuesday. Jasper H. Cantrall was a son of the late Levi L. and Elizabeth C. Cantrall, pioneer settlers of Sangamon County. He was born near this city on March 23, 1847 and at the time of his death he had reached the age of 73 years, 1 month, and 26 days. He lived practically all his life in this vicinity. He was united in marriage to Miss Sarah E. Waggoner, July 2, 1868. For many years deceased was connected with the business activities of this city, and during all his life he sustained a reputation for fair dealings with all his fellow men. He was a quiet, unassuming man and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. Of him it can be truly said - "He was a gentleman in every respect."

Surviving are his wife; four sons, William F., Petersburg, Ill., Bertram, Joseph M., Cramer, Minn., and Alfred I., living at home (a daughter Ethel B. having passed away Dec. 25, 1917); one sister, Mrs. Mary Warren, Illiopolis, Ill.; one brother, A. N. Cantrall, Athens; and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Christian Church Thursday morning, May 20, at 10 o'clock, Rev. C. F. McKown officiating.

Interment was made in Hall cemetery.
