Directions: New Salem State Park is located on Rte. 97 about 3 miles
south of Petersburg. Follow the road into the Park to the large parking lot at the visitor's center.
Go to the South end of the
lot and look for the sign pictured above. The hiking trail (shown in the next photo submitted by Carole is next
to the sign. As you hike down the trail, you will come to a board walkway on your right (see Carole's photo number 3), or you
can go straight. Take the walkway, it is shorter, but either way will take you to the cemetery. After you take the walkway,
you will continue up the trail, past a crumbling foundation (next 3 photos) - perhaps this was the Bale house? Walk past the
foundation for about 200 feet. The cemetery will be on your left. Look for the fence around the stones - shown in the last two photos
above submitted by Carole.
