CLARYS GROVE CEMETERY
Menard County, Illinois
This cemetery was checked in 1980 by Eileen Gochanour and in 1981 by Mr. James
Toal. Neither could find any evidence that the cemetery had existed. The cemetery was
located about 1 1/2 miles east of Tallula. It is her belief that George Greene was buried
in this cemetery in 1834. He was a Revolutionary War Veteran, born between 1755-1760 in
North Carolina. He married Lucy Jones. George Greene served in Capt. Robert
Porter's Company of Tyron County, North Carolina Militia, serving from Oct. 21, 1777 to
Dec. 30, 1777. George died July 25, 1834. The children of George & Lucy (Jones) Greene were:
Royal Potter Greene
George was a brother to Jarvis Greene & James Greene - all were in the Revolutionary War.
