J. W. COOK, physician, Petersburg; son of Romulus B. and Elizabeth (Backus) Cook; was born in the city of Hamilton, Canada, Oct. 3, 1843; where he was raised and educated; he attended the Normal University, where he prepared for a medical course, which he took at the Victoria Medical University of Toronto, graduating in 1866. He located in Chicago in 1867, and began the practice of his chosen profession; he practiced medicine until he came to Petersburg in 1878, where he is fast becoming a skilled and popular physician.
