HARTWELL HUNNICUTT and his family made a settlement in this township in the spring of 1820. He was a native of South Carolina, and in 1817, removed to the territory of Illinois, and located between the mouth of Wood river and the American Bottom. There they remained until the date above, when he came to this county. On the 1st of May, of that year, he settled on section 3, of this township, where he lived until 1823, when he removed to Walkerville township, where he died in 1833, in the latter part of February. Mrs. Hunnicutt, formerly Margaret Cunningham, died in 1837.
