STREET AND AVENUE GUIDE

The following is a list of the streets and avenues in the city and also telling where they are located.  Just a word of explanation may not be out of place:

The plan of numbering the houses in the city is that which is known as the Philadelphia plan.  The even number will be found on the right hand side and the odd numbers on the left hand side proceeding out any street from the dividing lines, (viz. Main and State Streets,) commencing with (100) and every block thereafter with the following (100).  For example going south on State Street from Main:  The (100) block is between Main and Second Streets.  The (200) is between Second and Third; the (300) block is between Third and Fourth, and so on to the limits.  The cross streets will be numbered the same, running east or west from State Street, as the case may be.

State Street, running north and south, is used as the dividing line.  Main Street is the principal business street in the city running east and west.
