WelcomeThe Sons of the American Revolution is a non-profit, non-political organization that was founded in 1889. Today there are chapters in every state. Joining SAR provides many opportunities to serve your community. Any man is eligible to join who is at least 18 years old and can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who was loyal to or provided service in the cause of American independence. Many types of service qualify, so contact us if you need help. The Lewis and Clark Chapter meetings are normally held the fourth Monday of each month (except during the summer months). The meetings traditionally begin at 7:30 p.m. Other special events include a Presidents Day banquet in February, a picnic or outing in May, a program in June to honor award recipients and a Christmas party in December. Founded in 1980, the Lewis & Clark Chapter now covers St. Clair, Monroe, Randolph, Washington, Jefferson, and Clinton counties in Illinois. During the last year, the Lewis and Clark chapter presented 23 Outstanding Student Awards to area high school students and awarded a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior. The chapter presents awards (including SAR Outstanding Citizenship, SAR Law Enforcement, SAR Fire Safety, and SAR Heroism and SAR Flag Awards) as are merited. The chapter is especially proud of its efforts in promoting the historic importance of local landmarks. Other events include participation in the Belleville Memorial Day parade, a Christmas party, a Presidents Day Celebration, and a picnic or special outing in May. Please join us for our Presidents Day Celebration on February 18, 2013. For additional information about the Lewis and Clark Chapter or to attend a meeting, email or phone Comp. Bob Blanchard at 618-233-5884. |
