T here are many communities in Gallatin County.

None are too big. Some are no more, but all contribute to mosiac that makes up Gallatin.

Shawneetown serves as the county seat, but it is known to the railroads at New Shawneetown. The original Shawneetown on the Ohio River exists today — still incorporated — as Old Shawneetown.

The other incorporated communities are New Haven on the Little Wabash River in the northeastern corner of the county, Omaha in the northwestern corner, Ridgway in the central part and Equality on the west side of the county. Tiny Junction, once known as Cypressville, Burnt Mill and later Cypress Junction when the railroads came through, now sits in the center of the county along Route 13.

Ghost towns today include Bowlesville, Colbert, Eagle, Elba (formerly Chrismasville and Hell's Half Acre), Gibsonia, Guineaville, Horseshoe, Irish Store, Kedron, Leamington, Saline Mines, New Market, Pond Settlement, and probably a few others I've missed.

Also, don't forget to use the Maps page on this site to physically locate a particular community. You can also used the United States Geological Survey's list of populated places in the county.
