Catlin News ItemsDanville News, Danville, Illinois, 10 February 1875, page 3, column 2. CATLIN NEWS John Birerly and Tilly Gilbert are the last in this vicinity. W. R. Timmons officiated. May all [lendable] efforts be crowned with success. On last Thursday night an immense joke was perpetrated in this vicinity, Isaac Sandusky of Catlin and Alex Craihmile of Pilot have for some time been paying their distresses to Belle and Annie McClenathan and Madame Rumor has frequently appointed the time at which a double wedding should take place and the Boys have as frequency appointed the time for a general chavari. Last Thursday, John Runnic said the time had come. Runners were sent in all directions. Three companies were raised. Horns, bells, horsefiddles, gim cracks and all the tomfoolery of the last two or three decades sprang into life and at ten o'clock McClenthans' house was surrounded by the most unearthly din ever heard in Catlin township. Father Mc. promptly appeared on the doorstep exhibiting a white flag, and as soon as quiet was restored remarked that "they were either badly mistaken or very kind." "If they thought his daughters were married, there was where they made the mistake, or if he and the old lady were the object of their attention, they were very kind, as it had been forty years since their marriage was celebrated. Captain Squires and Lieutenant Rhodes seeing the ludicrousness of the situation ordered a hasty retreat and seventy persons went home wiser if not better men. J. D. Hazlering has purchased the storehouse formerly occupied by Oakwood & Buoy. Danville parties are now engaged in moving it. It is to be remoddled for a dwelling house. A. C. Fertig is afraid of cats when his wife is not at home. Rev. Harvey the "Boy Preacher" is holding a series of meetings at the Christian Church. Quite a number of people -- mostly chldren -- in the village are sick; pneumonia seems to be the prevailing type of disease. Now that court is in session let those who are intrusted with the protection of the "People of the State of Illinois" do their duty to nobly and fearlessly. Let the office of Prosecuting Attorney hereafter never merit the name of "Prostituting Attorney". HANNAH MARIAH
