An altercation took place a few miles South of Catlin a fortnight ago between two young men in which knives were freely used on both sides; one of the parties has since taken up his bed and walked.

Mrs. J. M. Douglas is dangerously ill of typhoid fever. The measles are abating in our vicinity. A protracted meeting is being held at Prairie Church by Reverend James Ashmore and son which has resulted in many accessions to the church.

Mrs. Sophia Church one of the pioneer ladies of Catlin died a few days since.

Isaac Sandusky of Bourbon county, Ky., is visiting friends here.

The S. of T. Lodge held their festival here Friday night which terminated successfully; music vocal and instrumental, speeches, oysters, etc. was the order of the evening. Many strangers were present, some of which wondered that Catlin could support such a magnificent arrangement but their wonder soon

subsided when we told them that Catlin shipped more stock than any town on the road, also has the worse depot, the smallest Telegraph operator (we mean in stature), the most side-track, the highest schoolhouse and the deepest hole in the ground of any town of like size in the State.
