Hinkle Cemetery
Located in Mt. Auburn Township of Christian County in Illinois
This cemetery is currently cared for and active, but there is much evidence
of prior years of neglect. Many of the older stones have fallen and become buried.
The Hinkle cemetery is located on the north side of the Rochester to Decatur road, also known as County Highway #2.
The cemetery is mowed regularly. The fence has been removed.
Many of the stones are lying on the ground. Martin Hinkle,
one of our earliest pioneers, having settled in Mt. Auburn township inn
1821; is buried here. Martin and his wife Martha, "Patsy", are
buried here enclosed by an iron fence.
