Darwin V. "Dob" York 86 Hardinville, IL died at 1:23 p.m. Tuesday October 3, 2000 at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, IL. Mr. York was born June 14, 1914 in Crawford County, IL. He was the son of James Albert & Bessie (Wasson) York.

On February 4, 1940 he married Maxine B. Oxley who passed away on May 4, 1976. On September 10, 1988 he married Linnie Skaggs who survives. Darwin worked for Marathon as a Roustabout. For the last 15 years he operated a bulldozer moving rigs and building tank batteries. At the age of 12, Darwin and his father pulled wells with a team of horses. Darwin also helped clear the land for Oak Glen Golf Course and the Robinson Saddle Club. He was a Lifetime Member of the Hardinville Masonic lodge that became part of the Robinson Lodge. He also was Superintendent of Horse Pulls at the Crawford County Fair until 1993. Darwin was a member of the "Serenaders" playing the banjo at area nursing homes, Earls's Supper Club and many other dances in Southeastern Illinois.

Darwin is survived by his wife Linnie; Daughter and Son-In-Law Sue & Gene King; 2 Grandchildren Randy and Penny King; Brother & Sister-In-Law Harold & Mary Lue York; 3 Step Sons Brian Brown, Gregory Brown and Mark & Andrea Brown; 1 Step Daughter & Step Son-In-Law Cheryl & Rod Smith; Brother-In-Law Charles Oxley; 2 Sisters-In-Law Maurice Oxley and Mary Lou; 2 Step Grandchildren Elizabeth & Paula Smith. Also surviving are several Nieces & Nephews.

Darwin was preceded in death by his Parents, first wife Madeline Oxley, 2 Brothers Percy & Paul York; 2 sisters Beulah Connett & Audrey Hanover.

Burial was in Hardinville cemetery.
