Carl H. Smith, 92, of Palestine, died Thursday evening, April 19, 2007 at Cotillion Ridge Nursing Center, Robinson. He was born December 11, 1914 in Palestine, the son of Marion "Ed" and Alice (Huffman) Smith.

He graduated from Palestine High School. After graduating as supervisor in the quality control section of Experimental Flight Test, Carl was hired by Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita, KS. He worked with that company for 17 years in Wichita and was transferred to Seattle, WA in the same capacity. Carl retired in 1979 and returned to Illinois. He was a member of the Palestine First Christian Church, Palestine Masonic Lodge # 849 and was a member of the Singing Seniors, sponsored by Lincoln Trail College.

Carl married Evalyn Whitmer Smith in July of 1937 and she preceded him in death. Carl then married Jane Darnold in January of 1982, and she preceded him in death as well as his parents and his sister Helen Webb.

He is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Don G. and Mary E. Smith, Austin, TX, Dean and Vicky Smith, Blairsville, GA; his daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Melvin Trott, Woodstock, GA; 5 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson, with Rev. John Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Robinson New Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, with a Masonic Service to follow at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Charities of America or to the Salvation Army, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
