Nellie Shinn, 92, Oblong died Monday December 31, 2001 at 10:45 p.m. at her residence following a period of poor health. She was born April 26, 1909 in Yale, Illinois the daughter of Edward Harrison and Ora (Eubank) Harrison.
On September 8, 1933 she married Albert "Shine" Shinn who died April 6, 1961. Nellie was a telephone operator in the Oblong office of both Midland and Illinois Consolidated Telephone Companies. She retired in 1973 as a cook at the Oblong Grade School. Nellie was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Oblong where she was an active member for 79 years. She was a member of the Co Workers Circle at the church and also taught Bible School and Junior High Sunday School class at the church. She attended Yale, Prairie Onion and Oblong schools. Her hobbies included embroidering, quilting and raising flowers. She loved to be outside and with her family.
Nellie is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Marylan & Orren Leggitt; 2 grandchildren Brian & Nora Leggitt and Beth Leggitt; 2 great grandchildren Erin & Katelyn Leggitt.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband 1 infant brother and 1 infant sister.
Burial will be in Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, IL
