Raymond George Preston, 93, of the United Methodist Village, Lawrenceville, IL, formerly of the Flat Rock area, died at 1:25 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2004. He was born February 15, 1911 in Flat Rock, the son of George Preston and Elsie Sheppard Preston.

He was a retired oil field worker and had been employed later by Montgomery Township. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, rural Palestine.

He married Dorothy Carithers on August 28, 1937 and she survives. Also surviving are his 2 sons and daughter-in-law, Wayne Preston, Austin, TX, Mark and Pam Preston, Robinson; his 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Doug Painter, Allendale, Darla and Rob Windes, Allendale; 11 grandchildren, Laurel Preston, Andy Preston, Amber Preston, Karla Burck, Kevin Mathes, Kyle Mathes, Krystle Windes, Alex Windes, Tyler Windes, Trina Hulfachor, Kris Bates; 8 great grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Jane Preston, Flat Rock; and his sister, Jean Wesley, Flat Rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 daughter, Karen Mathes; 3 sisters, Mary Jane Parker, Lorene Blunt, Beulah Boyd; 4 brothers, Ralph Preston, Randall Preston, Richard Preston, and Junior Preston.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 4, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Flat Rock. Rev. Scott Farmer is in charge of services. Burial is in the Jones Cemetery, rural Flat Rock. Visitation is from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and until service time on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church or to the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville with envelopes available at the funeral home.
