Francis M. Padgett died at his home in the north part of the city yesterday morning, Jan. 24, 1899, at 6 o'clock, after a short illness of pneumonia. He was born in Owen county, Ind., Feb. 10, 1834, and was therefore nearing his 65th birthday. He was twice married; his first wife was Nancy Bledsew, whom he married in 1856. She died in 1881. Nine children were born to them, four of whom survive, viz: Mrs. Margaret Smith, Lafayette Padgett, Mrs. Lizzie Hondrich and Sherman Padgett, all of whom reside in this county except the latter, who resides at Bloomington, Ind. His second wife was Jane McColpin, whom he married in 1888 and who died in 1890. Mr. Padgett was a member of C. F. of the 5th Ill. Cavalry during the rebellion. Interment will occur in the Prior graveyard in Martin township tomorrow.

The funeral of Francis M. Padgett occurred last Thursday, conducted by Rev. C. A. Beckett of the Methodist church. Interment occurred in the Alfred Prior cemetery in Martin township. Members of Henry Longenecker Post served as an escort. Newton Padgett, of Terre Haute, a brother of deceased, was in attendance, remaining in the city until Monday.

Sherman Padgett and wife came over from Bloomington, Ind., last Wednesday to attend the funeral of the formers father, F. M. Padgett, on Thursday.
