John F. Midgett, 79, of rural Vincennes, IN, formerly of Crawford and Lawrence County, IL, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at his residence. He was born June 29, 1924 in Flat Rock, IL, the son of William Midgett and Lotus Rich Midgett.

He retired from Marathon after 42 years of service where he worked in production in Robinson and Des Plaines. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was active in F.F.A. and was a member of the Flat Rock Masonic Lodge #348, Mt. Carmel V. F. W. Post #4276, Palestine AmVets Post #33, Lawrenceville American Legion, Flat Rock American Legion Post #132, Lawrenceville Moose Lodge #779.

He married Christina Carol Midgett on March 21, 1944 and she preceded him in death on January 24, 1995. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lawrence Midgett, and sister, Laura Parker.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Terrye and Micheline Midgett, Hanover, Park, IL; 4 grandchildren, John W. & his wife, Rachel Midgett, Jeffersonville, IN, Terri Lynn Riley, Creole, AL, Lisa & Lendell Stout, Lake In The Hills, IL, Michelle Skonieczny, Lake In The Hills, IL; 6 great grandchildren; special friend, Delores J. Biddle, rural Vincennes, IN; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Patty Midgett, Flat Rock; sister, Dorothy Faith, Lawrenceville; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004 at the Tohill Cemetery rural Flat Rock.. Visitation will be Friday, March 5th from 5-7 p.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Flat Rock. Masonic services conducted by the Flat Rock Masonic Lodge # #348 at 7:00 p.m. Military services will be conducted by the combined units of the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132, Robinson American Legion Post #69, Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, and AmVets Post #33 at the cemetery.
