Elmer M. Hamilton, 84, of Palestine, IL, died at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson. He was born May 8, 1922, in Hutsonville, IL, the son of Arthur W. Hamilton and Edith Metcalfe Hamilton.

He graduated from Hustonville High School in 1940 and was active in sports, especially basketball and baseball. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII in Pensacola, FL. He retired as an Operating Engineer in the construction industry. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge # 3078, Lawrenceville, Palestine Masonic Lodge #849, the Danville Consistory, the Ainad Shrine of East St. Louis, the Crawford County Shrine Club and the Shrine Club Motor Patrol, the Hutsonville American Legion Post #742, Vincennes, IN. V. F. W. Post #1177, AmVets Post #33, past member of the Robinson Moose Lodge, and the Lawrenceville Elks Lodge #1208.

He is survived by his sister, Dora Virginia Creed, West Middlesex, PA; 1 nephew and his wife, Jack L. and Roberta Creed, West Middlesex, PA, his great nephew, Mark Robert Creed, Mattoon, 4 great nieces, Trudy Creed, Mattoon, Maureen DiFeo, Debbie and Denise Creed, West Middlesex, PA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Charles Robert Creed.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 22nd at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Burial is in the Hutsonville Cemetery. Visitation is from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, with Masonic services by the Palestine Masonic Lodge #849 to be conducted following visitation at 4:00 p.m. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Hutsonville American Legion Post #742.
