The ever moving finger of time has once more pointed to the hour when in accordance with the summons of the Grim Reaper Death all that is immortal of one of earth’s number took its departure from the world of activity and sailed forth to that "mysterious realm from whose bourne no traveler returns."

Thus we pause to pay tribute to the memory of David C. Grubaugh, who was born in Crawford county Nov. 3, 1844, and departed this life Aug. 16, 1924, at 3:40 a. m. being at the time of his death 79 years, 9 months and 13 days of age.

While still a youth and during the latter period of the great national crisis Mr. Grubaugh became a member of the 162nd Illinois Regiment and continued in service until the close of the war.

Shortly after the war Mr. Grubaugh returned to his native county and has since been a resident of the same.

On Jan. 15, 1868, the subject of our sketch was united in marriage to Miss Anna Shannon, of this county, and to this union were born six children, four of whom have preceded their father in death.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Anna Grubaugh; two daughters, Mrs. Fanny M. Berry, of Hazel Crest, and Mrs. Lena Pearl Collins, of Robinson. Five grandchildren, Mrs. Gladys Warren, of West Liberty; Mr. Ashbel Berry, of Hazel Crest; Woodford and Gale Collins, of Robinson. Six great grandchildren, besides a large host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Grubaugh was a member of the United Brethren church of New Hebron and to the time of his death maintained a firm faith in his God. He was also a member of the local post of the G. A. R. and prized highly the associations with his comrades when ever it was possible for him to meet with them.

He was a staunch friend, honest in all of his dealings and respected by all who knew him. In his death the loved ones have lost a loving husband, father and counselor. The county a good citizen and for him on the monument of the human heart will be carved the epitaph, "Here lies a man."
