Charles O. Craig 79 Oblong, Illinois died Monday February 11, 2002 at Valley Regional Hospital in Brownsville, Texas. He was born October 27, 1922 in Millerville, Illinois and was the son of Otis & Lora (King) Craig. On November 12, 1948 he married Frances Gilmore, she survives. In 1983 he retired from the Production Department and Heavy Equipment Operator at Marathon Oil Company. Charles was affiliated with the Evangelical United Methodist Church Oblong. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He later served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. During WWII Charles flew on 30 bombing missions over Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe in a B 24 Bomber. His squadron was based at Liverpool, England. Charles was a member of V.F.W. Post in Lawrenceville, Oblong American Legion Post #219, 50 year member of the Oblong Masonic Lodge AF & AM #644, member of the Lincoln Trail and Cold Foot Campers as well as Good Sam Campers. His hobbies included fishing, woodworking, and after retirement traveling. For the past several years he & Frances spent their winters in Brownsville, Texas.
Charles is survived by his wife Frances; son and daughter-in-law Terry & Sharon Craig; 3 grandchildren Jarad, Damon, & Tara Craig; Sister Opal Houser; sister-in-law Lucille Craig; sisters-in-laws and brother-in-law Fern & Earl Holycross, Pauline Reynolds and Mildred Gilmore; several nieces and nephews also survive. Charles is preceded in death by his parents; 9 brothers ( Harold, Willard, Alva, Jay, Odin, Raymond, Boyd, Edgar and Don Craig) and 3 sisters (Georgie Musgrove, Dorothy Schroater and Lora May Craig).
Burial is in Lawrenceville City Cemetery, Lawrenceville, Illinois.
